Based on the Kodály method (pronounced Kod-éye), Jingle Jeff teaches children how to read and write music while they play! When:       Tuesdays 3:30 to 5:00 pm  for Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders OR      Mondays 3:05 to 4:30 pm                     for Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders (Please specify your choice when you register.) Where: Tuesdays at the Jingle Jamboree Music Studio, 1016 Talbot Avenue Mondays at OV Main Campus 1000 Jackson Street meet in the amphitheater for a welcome snack Fees: $250 for each 10-week series (Price increases to $300 Sept. 1) Registration:  jinglejamboree.com/camp/ (Child’s first and last name & parent/guardian and address are required) Payments:  All payments need to be made in advance this year. Please submit payment: 1) Through Square Invoice with credit card that can be charged for each payment of $250 or $225 every 10 weeks. You will receive a reminder one month before you are charged. 2) Write 3 checks that are post dated for August 24, November 26, 2019 and February 25, 2020 and submit with your registration. The first check should be dated at time of registration in August.  4) No exceptions - Payments must be made in advance according to the rules outlined above. Behavior:  Students are expected to follow the behavior guidelines of Music Club.  Students should bring a good attitude, follow directions, cooperate with one another and the teacher. Most of all the focus is to have fun in a musical setting after classes. LATE PICK UP:  Students who are being picked up by parents must be picked up by 5:00 pm on Tuesdays and 4:30 pm on Thursdays. The late charge of $5 first minute and $2 each additional minute will be added to your account for payment.  No exceptions.  If you know you will be late, please make arrangements with other families to pick up your child and let me know about it in order to avoid the late pick up fees. CAMP FEATURES:  Daily field trips, a surprise pizza party on Friday, music reading and writing, and new crafts.

Disney Trip, Workshop & Performance Amazing Our Teachers from Broadway and Disneyland Our show was 30 minutes and the songs began with Jazz in the 1940s and 50s. Then we progressed to current Pop songs and our finale was My Shot from Hamilton. The students did a fantastic job as this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At the conclusion we received a standing ovation!! Workshops were backstage Disney - INCREDIBLE The students sang, learned choreography including dancing, were recorded and filmed all professionally edited by our own sound and video technician. We rehearsed in an actual hall where Disney professionals create their shows throughout the park. This sign was posted in several locations backstage Disney!! Introducing Shelly Nichols our Clinician for Workshop #1. As you can see Shelly has worked for Disney for more than 30 years and prior to that she was with the National Broadway Tour of Grease as well as local musical theater productions. We received these Disney Performing Arts t-shirts, plaque and each student received a Disney Performing Arts backpack!! These are the students who were in Workshop #1 with Shelly Nichols a Broadway star and choreographer. She created the Disneyland Show Choir program and she was a fantastic teacher, singer and choreographer. Introducing Bill Lett our Clinician for Workshop #2. He has worked in television, film, CBS, NBC, Touchstone Pictures, Musical Theater and he is on the faculty of the Orange County High School of the Arts and the Musical Theater and Dance program at Cal State Fullerton. Jingle Jamboree Music Class Policies: 

Refund Policy:  The class fee is based on a $50 non-refundable (no exceptions)

 administrative fee.  Camp fees are then refunded according to the remaining 

amount.  Class cancellations must be received in writing.  Refunds are 75% 

during November and  No refunds after Dec. 1 (no exceptions).   Refunds 

require a minimum of two weeks to process.

Liability:  Jingle Jamboree Music and its teachers, camp counselors and assistants will do the best to keep your child safe at all times.  By signing your child into summer camp you are placing trust in Jingle Jamboree Music.  Parents and caregivers relieve Jingle Jamboree Music of all liability or blame should injury occur during the camp.  Jingle Jamboree, its director, camp counselors and teachers are also exempt from any liability in case anyone is injured during the camp.

Audio/Video Recording: In order to honor copyrighted material, electronic recording is prohibited.

Please do not bring:  Electronics, gum, candy, or class bottles/containers to camp.

Cell Phones:  Please turn them off or to silent during music class.  Please do not check your messages or text during camp unless there is an urgent issue.

Visitors:  In order to enhance your child’s musical experience please keep visitors to a minimum.  Children not enrolled in Jingle Jamboree Music camps may not visit without prior arrangements.  Grandma & Grandpa and Aunts and Uncles are always welcome, but please caution them to listen quietly with their cell phones off.  An occasional picture is okay as long as the children do not seem distracted by it.  No flash photography.

Side Conversations: You are welcome to observe, but  please no side conversations during the teaching and singing portion of camp.  Use your best judgment and talk only between songs and during transitions.  If you have an older student (ages 3 years and up), please observe quietly during class.
Photo Release:  Your registration is an agreement to allow Jingle Jamboree Music to use photos/videos taken at camp in future promotional materials.  Your child will not be identified by name.  You can opt out of this photo release by sending an email stating this.  Your child will not be included in group pictures or other photos if you opt out.

 Learning rhythms separately at first will help children

 understand the beat and the rhythm in songs.

Adding the missing rhythms and missing notes helps

students fully comprehend all musical elements of the song.

Jingle Jamboree Music Camp Policies: 

Refund Policy:  The camp fee is based on a $50 non-refundable (no exceptions) administrative fee.  Camp fees are then refunded according to the remaining amount.  Camp cancellations must be received in writing.  Refunds are 75% during November and  No refunds after Dec. 1 (no exceptions).   Refunds require a minimum of two weeks to process.

Liability:  Jingle Jamboree Music and its teachers, camp counselors and assistants will do the best to keep your child safe at all times.  By signing your child into summer camp you are placing trust in Jingle Jamboree Music.  Parents and caregivers relieve Jingle Jamboree Music of all liability or blame should injury occur during the camp.  Jingle Jamboree, its director, camp counselors and teachers are also exempt from any liability in case anyone is injured during the camp.

Audio/Video Recording: In order to honor copyrighted material, electronic recording is prohibited.

Please do not bring:  Electronics, gum, candy, or class bottles/containers to camp.

Cell Phones:  Please turn them off or to silent during music class.  Please do not check your messages or text during camp unless there is an urgent issue.

Visitors:  In order to enhance your child’s musical experience please keep visitors to a minimum.  Children not enrolled in Jingle Jamboree Music camps may not visit without prior arrangements.  Grandma & Grandpa and Aunts and Uncles are always welcome, but please caution them to listen quietly with their cell phones off.  An occasional picture is okay as long as the children do not seem distracted by it.  No flash photography.

Side Conversations: You are welcome to observe, but  please no side conversations during the teaching and singing portion of camp.  Use your best judgment and talk only between songs and during transitions.  If you have an older student (ages 3 years and up), please observe quietly during class.

Photo Release:  Your registration is an agreement to allow Jingle Jamboree Music to use photos/videos taken at camp in future promotional materials.  Your child will not be identified by name.  You can opt out of this photo release by sending an email stating this.  Your child will not be included in group pictures or other photos if you opt out.

• Study: Music Education Could Help Close The Achievement Gap Between Poor And Affluent Students

Closing the achievement gap between low-income and affluent students could be as simple as do-re-mi.

In a study out Tuesday from Northwestern University, researchers looked at the impact of music education on at-risk children’s nervous systems and found that music lessons could help them develop language and reading skills. The study is the first to document the influence of after-school music education on the brains of disadvantaged children, as opposed to affluent children receiving private lessons.

Researchers from the Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory at Northwestern spent two summers with children in Los Angeles who were receiving music lessons throughHarmony Project, a non-profit organization providing free music education to low-income students. In order to document how music education changed children’s brains, students were hooked up to a neural probe that allowed researchers to see how children “distinguished similar speech sounds, a neural process that is linked to language and reading skills,” according to a press release.

Students from the study, ages six to nine, were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of children who received two years of music education by the end of the study, while the second group of children had only received one year of lessons. This led researchers to discover that children’s brains only started to respond to the music education after two years of lessons. One year was not enough to have a definitive impact.

“We used a quick but powerful neural probe that allowed us to gauge speech processing with unprecedented precision. With it, we found that the brain changes only followed two years of music training,” Dr. Nina Kraus, director of Northwestern’s Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory, said in a press release. “These findings are a testament that it’s a mistake to think of music education as a quick fix, but that if it’s an ongoing part of children’s education, making music can have a profound and lifelong impact on listening and learning.”

Leaders at Harmony Project approached the researchers after the non-profit observed that their students were performing much better than other public school students in the area. Since 2008, over 90 percent of high school seniors who participated in Harmony Project’s free music lessons went on to college, even though the high school dropout rates in the surrounding Los Angeles areas can reach up to 50 percent, according to a Northwestern press release.

“Now we know this success is rooted, at least in part, in the unique brain changes imparted by making music,” Dr. Margaret Martin, founder of Harmony Project, said in the press release.

Kraus told The Huffington Post that the study could be a case for expanding music education in school.

“It would appear that music is an effective strategy for helping to close the achievement gap,” Kraus said. “What seems to be happening is that this experience of making music is helping to create a more efficient brain, a brain that is going to be able to help a person learn and communicate, especially through sound.”

The Harmony Project and the Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory have teamed up before to study how music education impacts students’ grades. Researchers previously showed that after one year, second-grade students participating in Harmony Project maintained or improved their grades. This compares to peers from the same schools whose grades’ dipped after not participating in music lessons.

“Existing research indicates that kids from poor homes are not learning to read in the first four years of school –- while kids from middle-class and affluent homes are,” Martin previously told The Atlantic. “Given the importance of reading in achieving an education, this finding is stunning.”
